Better a Crutch explores the decayed, dilapidated structures at Rochester Square, Camden through a series of piecemeal material interventions.

Based on Ruskin's notion of imperfect preservation, the project conjures a version of development and habitation that, rather than removing and replacing existing structures, creates unique, materially rich, and contextually-sensitive objects to enhance and repair.

Using a mix of 3D scanning and CNC techniques alongside conventional slip-casting methods, the project fills-in and accentuates gaps and divergences in the existing fabric.
